Frequently Asked Questions

Is the BFA right for me if I am just starting out?

Yes, absolutely. The curriculum starts at the very beginning - from registering with HMRC through to understanding your profits. You are in exactly the right place.

I have been in business a while. Is there still value for me?

Yes. You can go straight to the modules most relevant to where you are right now - whether that is pricing, Self Assessment, Making Tax Digital or cash flow. You do not have to start at Module 1.

Is Sue a tax adviser or accountant?

Sue is a highly experienced bookkeeper, not a tax adviser or accountant. The BFA covers bookkeeping, financial organisation, software support, Self Assessment preparation and Making Tax Digital. For specialist tax advice, Sue can refer you to a trusted accountant partner at a separate cost.

Does the BFA include my Self Assessment?

Self Assessment completion is available as a paid add-on - £200 for members and £250 for non-members. The curriculum will prepare you thoroughly so the process feels much less daunting.

What software does the BFA cover?

The training focuses on Xero and FreeAgent - two of the most popular options for sole traders and small businesses. If you are not yet on bookkeeping software, the curriculum will help you choose and get set up correctly.

What if I cannot attend a live session?

No problem at all. Every live Q&A and co-working session is recorded and added to the member library so you can watch back at any time.

How do I ask questions between sessions?

You can post questions in the private member community at any time. Sue answers questions in batches - promptly, but not instantaneously. For more complex or time-sensitive matters, a Power Hour is the best way to get focused 1:1 support.

I am based outside the UK - can I join?

To keep the content specific and accurate, the Business Finance Academy is currently open to members based in mainland UK only.

Can I cancel my membership?

Monthly memberships can be cancelled at any time. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. Lifetime memberships are a one-off payment with no ongoing commitment.
